Jewish Heritage in the Netherlands
Amsterdam: The Walks, the Museums, and Anne Frank's House
What a guided walk covers, what the Jewish Cultural Quarter ticket opens, and what only the museum sells.
Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ Jewish heritage trip, and it has two halves: the Anne Frank walks around the canal ring by the Westerkerk, and the Jewish Cultural Quarter around Waterlooplein, with the Portuguese Synagogue of 1675, the Jewish Museum and the National Holocaust Museum. The Anne Frank House sells its own tickets, only online, and no tour includes them. The best-rated walk is Amsterdamliebe’s Anne Frank small-group walk, from $22 a person as of October 2026, rated 4.9 from 4,922 reviews.

What there is to see
- The Anne Frank House. The canal house on the Prinsengracht where Anne Frank’s family hid. Tickets are sold only on annefrank.org, released every Tuesday at 10:00 Amsterdam time for the week six weeks ahead, the museum says; there are no tickets at the door. No tour includes the museum.
- The Portuguese Synagogue. Completed in 1675 for the city’s Sephardic community, still lit by its brass chandeliers. It is closed on Saturdays.
- The Jewish Museum. Housed in four former synagogues across the square, with a children’s museum alongside. One Jewish Cultural Quarter ticket covers both the synagogue and the museum. See dates →
- The National Holocaust Museum and the Hollandsche Schouwburg. The former theatre where Amsterdam’s Jews were assembled for deportation is now the National Holocaust Memorial; the museum faces it.
If the Anne Frank House is sold out for your dates, or you want the story around it as well, a guided walk is the answer: Amsterdamliebe’s starts at the Anne Frank monument by the Westerkerk, passes the house and goes on to the Stolpersteine and the Portuguese Synagogue, in one of eight languages. The walks are sold for your own date, not in the museum’s Tuesday release, and cancel free up to 24 hours ahead.

Check which one you have chosen. jewish-walking-tour.com compares the Amsterdam walks in more detail.
The two tickets are sold by the Jewish Cultural Quarter itself and are the way inside: the Portuguese Synagogue and the Jewish Museum on one, the National Holocaust Museum and the Hollandsche Schouwburg on the other.

"Although it was an excursion that didn't include entry to the Anne Frank House, I was glad to participate because I was able to learn in depth about the historical context, the remaining archeological sites, and the current geopolitical situation.
